About Us

Bangiya Itihas o Sanskriti Anusandhan Samiti ( BISAS ) is a non-profit
socio-cultural organisation with an aim to rewrite the glorious past
of Bangabhumi and to re-establish the greatness of the Bengalee
people. We are inspired by the writings of Rishi Bankim Chandra
Chattopadhyay, who for the first time gave a rousing call to the
Bengalee people and felt the importance of history. The past always
inspired us and it continue to inspire the future generations. Bankim
wrote historical novels for the common people, in which history and
myth coexist. Hence Bankim followed the style of the Ramayan,
Mahabharat ( Itihas ), and Puranas, where date and year was not
important, nor cronological history, but emphasis was on the aims and
objectives of the people, society and state. The Bengalees were not
united at that time, nor they had any state of their own. But Bankim's
writings inspired the next generation and we witness the emergence of
Barendra Anusandhan Samiti and professional Bengalee historians like
R. C. Mazumdar. The Bengalees gave little importance to history,
unlike the other peoples of Bharat. Thus we find no recorded history
before the rise of Sashanka. The history of Anga, Vanga, Pundra, Suhma
kingdoms were written by Epic Poets. The lack of interest in history
was one of the major reasons for our downfall. There was no kalhana in
Bengal, who could write the systematic history. Our history was
largely based on myth, while surprisingly our eastern neighbours like
Assam, Orissa, Bihar, Manipur, Burma etc had long historical
traditions. This absence of history led Bankim to write historical
novels and it is the same urge that compel us to search our past. We
had kings like Raja Ganesh, Maharaja Pratapaditya, Raja Sitaram, poets
like Jayadeb, Bharat Chandra, Rabindranath, warriors like Dakshin Ray,
Mukut Ray, Bagha Jatin, historians like Gangaram, R. C. Mazumdar,
Satish Chandra Mitra, law-makers like Raghunandan, social reformers
like Sri Chaitanya, Sri Ramakrishna. All these people contributed to
our society. The aim of BISAS is to highlight the hitherto unknown
aspects of Bengalee history. The emphasis would be given on Agniyug
and on the independent states that existed prior and during the Muslim
rule. Om Vande Mataram !
